Katharine's Journey
My path into acupuncture started after working since 2010 as a bedside nurse (most of it in pediatric intensive care and post-surgical recovery, along with time in outpatient care). I spent that time at the bedside with patients through some of the hardest, most vulnerable moments of their lives, and I kept seeing the same pattern: we treated the symptom in front of us, again and again, without always addressing what was driving it in the first place. I'd already experienced firsthand what acupuncture could do, so I knew where to look for something different. That's what led me to train in acupuncture and Traditional East Asian Medicine, where treating the root cause isn't an afterthought: it's the starting point.
What makes my practice different is that dual background. My bedside nursing years gave me hands-on knowledge of physiology, patient care, and what recovery actually looks and feels like from the inside: in the ICU, post-op, and beyond. Acupuncture training gave me tools to work with the whole body, not just the symptom in front of me. Patients get both: someone who understands the clinical experience and someone trained to look past it.
Today my practice focuses on oncology support (I hold an advanced certification from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center) along with women's health, pelvic health, and everyday pain, stress, and sleep issues. I'm currently completing my Doctorate of Acupuncture.
"I learned to treat symptoms in a hospital. I learned to treat root causes in acupuncture."
